Epoxy modified acrylic emulsion

The epoxy resin is added to the emulsion polymerization system to react with the acrylate monomers or acrylic polymers. The epoxy modified acrylic polymer emulsion can be prepared. This emulsion copolymer organically combines the excellent properties of both epoxy resin and acrylic polymer. The anti fouling adhesion strength, resistance, weather resistance, water resistance, solvent resistance, gloss and other performance indicators are better than ordinary acrylic emulsion polymer. This kind of polymer can be used as inner wall coating for beer, canned and juice containers. It is also used for the preparation of automotive coatings, general mechanical coatings and nonwoven adhesives.

There are two ways to modify the acrylic emulsion with epoxy resin. The first is to graft acrylic monomers onto the molecular chain of epoxy resin by free radical reaction. The second is to make the epoxy group on the epoxy chain and the active groups such as carboxyl group and amino group on the chain of acrylic polymer chain react with each other to form new macromolecules.

No matter which method is used to prepare the epoxy modified acrylic polymer emulsion, a sufficient amount of unsaturated carboxylic acid is needed. Such as acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, etc., in order to introduce the carboxyl group. This provides both the crosslinking point and the stability of the prepared polymer emulsion. In addition, internal crosslinking monomers such as N- hydroxymethyl acrylamide often need to be added. Or the addition of polyvinyl polyamine, amino resin and other diplomatic agents to increase the degree of crosslinking can be given to the emulsion polymer for better performance.
